The Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS) has been officially relaunched in the Nellore district as of April 2026. This initiative aims to curb domestic thefts and provide residents with peace of mind during travel.

Project Background & Success

  • Origin: First launched in 2017 in the YSR Kadapa district.

  • Expansion: Implementation across all districts was proposed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu following high success rates.

  • Proven Efficacy: Within just five days of the recent relaunch, police successfully cracked a theft case and recovered stolen jewelry using the system.

Key Features of LHMS

  • Zero Cost: The police department installs CCTV cameras at no charge to the homeowner.

  • Centralized Security: Cameras are linked directly to the Central Monitoring System at local police stations.

  • Mobile Connectivity: Residents traveling for more than two days can monitor their homes in real-time via their smartphones.

How to Enroll

According to SP Ajitha Vejendla, while the system has existed for years, public adoption has been low. To utilize the service:

  • Eligibility: Intended for residents leaving their homes vacant for two or more days.

  • Process: Homeowners must approach the police in person to request the installation and setup.
